Just wanted to say congratulations to Scott Sharples for winning Australian Cycling Coach of the Year. It is a big deal to win that award, and his talent farming has produced the standard in mountain biking development worldwide. Nice one. As his friend, and fellow bike rider, I am proud. I have been there to see him haul half a dozen junior riders all around europe for 6 months to race world cups, that is dedication, and he has quite a collection of Aussie World Champs now to show for it.
Katrina Miller has opened up a bike/coffee shop up in Queensland, Australia called Bikes and Beans. She has raced for a long time, is now at the end of her racing career, and needs a place to put all those trophies. This is what she had to say about it....
Not sure if international news has coverd this, but we have been having some serious fires up here in the mountains of New South Wales. Right at the base of the mtn, through national forest, the main blaze has torn through thousands of hectares, fanned yesterday by winds that reached up to 100km/h.
The threat is not really where we are at in Leura, but the smoke spans most of the valley down below. Hundreds of firefighters are out there battling and backburning, like 10 helecopters, etc. It is hot. They are even taking the water out of people's pools. Seems like weather pattterns are getting a lot more extreme earlier in the year. We are not even at the hottest or coldes part of the year.
I left out that on my road trip a couple weeks ago, I went through Bend, Oregon to see my good pal April Lawyer, and her new clothing store Vanilla. The store has been open for a little while, but this was my first visit. I had been saving pennies just for this occasion, cause you gotta support your friends and their dreams.....
Bryn, Johhno Taylor (Revolution Mag editor), and I ventured down to Sydney to watch the Australian Open Golf tournament. It is one thing to see these guys play on tv, but quite another live in the flesh.
Down at bondi beach and they were having this sculpture by the sea exhibit throughout the rocks. Richie Kuhaupt's sculptures were by far the most interesting. Looking at them tricked your eyes into thinking you were seeing some stretched out photo or something. Thought I would share, I did not do anything to these photo. www.sculpturerebythesea.com

Road trip is finally over. I hit the wall a bit in the last three hours going through Portland traffic. All good now, 4000 miles later. Went from 99 degrees and sunny skies down in LA to snowstorms and 32 degrees at night driving in oregon, and then rain and strong winds here in seattle. Seen it all, jeep was a champ the whole way.
Today was an amazing day. Outside of my sport, I have not met any world champions, and today I met 2 ladies that rule their cycling worlds.

santa monica - long beach
This afternoon was the AMA Supermoto Championship in Long Beach by the Queen Mary ship. I was pretty pumped, cause when I worked at Troy Lee the supermoto sponsorship brochure was one of my projects, so I knew a bit about it and how important a role Troy Lee Designs has played.

Went from Lax to Valencia to see my pal Randy. It was pretty fun, did a lap or two with him on the 50s, hung out, and I rode his backyard trails on my bmx a little before heading out to meet Monk, my mechanic, at his house in Hesperia.
Monk is a legend. I have heard about a bazillion stories about the desert and his family out there, so to finally put some faces with names, and see the monk dog in his own environment was pretty cool. I was just getting my bikes all dialed in for when I leave. Got a freshy little blue 4x bike, my carbon xc bike put together, and was testing out a hard tail for sizing. Monk has a bunch of his vintage bikes from yeti, and his other endeavors, little shorty stems, micro for little monk dog.
Then I drove down to santa monica to see my friend Jamie and some other friends, from red bull. They put me up i this swanky hotel, and we went out on the town for some bowling. I am off and on with bowling, either do really good or really crap. I had a bunch of 9s but not one strike. Jamie killed it:)
Took a break from my roadtrip and spent the last 4 days in a little town on the beach in Mexico with my friend April. She booked a ticket and was going to go alone, so I decided to join her last minute and bought a ticket from LAX.
