Guess Nico Vouilloz will be returning to World Cup Mountain biking. Not sure exactly why, but I am guessing if he is returning, he will still be able to win races, or at least podium. 11 World Championships doesn't quite have the same ring as his current 10. I am pretty excited. I missed that generation of the sport when he was the dominator, so it will be unreal. The guy is amazing on a bike from the videos, bit of a scientist really. He is riding for a french bike company, Lapierre and working on bike development.
So this means, the two greatest bike riders of all time, both French have come out of retirement for 2007. Nico for MTB and Anne for BMX.
I sent him an email to find out for real.....
Nico, "Hi are you the real Jill Kintner? :-) the 4x star? Amazing season congratulations!
Yes I will be present on 2 WC events, probably WC2 and 5! I will also compet in rally car in a new IRC serie (like european championnish) I really do that for fun and challenging myself! After 4/5 years, it should be really difficult to come into top 5! The top guys, specially Sam look very fast...
Have a good season! Bye Nico"
I stayed home from the dustball National Champs race in Canberra last weekend. I got really sick with heat stroke the last time I was there, so I spent the time training and enjoying being home :) Bryn was there and filled me in on some details...
They just announced that Canberra, Australia will be the host of the 2009 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships. Apparently the government poured in like a million dollars, so of course they will get it. There will be some unhappy euros at that race. Rain is not very common and the dirt is straight powder. 3 years, anything can happen I suppose. Glen Jacobs assures us that the trees will grow, and it will be amazing. 07 Worlds- Scotland, 08 Worlds- Italy, Val di Sole (Sun Valley)?, 09 Worlds- Canberra.
Sorry for the lack of updates, we just moved to a place without internet. Unlike America where internet is pretty much free at every cafe, bookshop, or library, it is a hassle here in the mountains of Oz.
Went up to the final round of the Australian National mountaincross series in Newcastle, NSW. For a 4X only event, the turn out was pretty huge. They run a different format and style of racing over here. Three rounds, like motos, and you advance based on the total points of those rounds.
Anne Caroline Chausson just announced that she will be returning to bmx to try to qualify for olympics. That is pretty bad ass, there is no doubt that she will be a contender. I predicted a return when the announcement was first made. http://www.annecarochausson.com
Most of you know Vanessa Quin as the 2004 Downhill World Champion. I know her as a friend and as a person with a good head on her shoulders. In 2006, at the first World Cup in Spain, Vanessa suffered a horrific crash, destroying her arms. Several surgeries, pins and casts later, she is just now getting herself back up to speed and looking forward to a new team and a new season....
The new James Bond movie was a lot better than I expected!! In one of the first scenes, there is a chase, on foot, that is the most amazing thing ever. Apparently the villain in the scene is the cofounder of this sport called Parkour, or freestyle running. It is like a combination of gymnastics, running, plyometrics, tuck and rolls, and jumps. The stuff is nutz, looks like these guys have rubber bones to be able to do the stunts they do. I would be a serious bad ass if this was in my bag of tricks:) youtube.com has all kinds of videos of it. 1 2 3

Great Outdoors 5, is a video about the 2006 outdoor motocross season. They interview riders, mechanics, etc in 2006, and tell the story behind it all. It is probably the best production/ music combination I have ever seen in any action sports genre. I think they must have scored their own music with a symphony and had expensive cameras. It could easily go in the cinemas. Try and watch it, it is better than all the rest. The Bar to Bar videos from supercross are personal favorites as well. :)
