08 GT Bikes
The new 2008 Gt line up is looking pretty flashy. This last week GT hosted a press camp in Engelberg, Switzerland to show off the new bikes. They have a couple new 6" bikes, a 4" carbon xc bike, a carbon Zaskar hardtail, regular Zaskar, Carbon BMX, and a new GTR road bike...
The Sanction and The Force are the new 6" bikes. Sanction has through axles front and rear and a bit slacker head angle for aggressive riding. The RockShox Lyric fork is perfect with it!! Can use this bike for all mountain stuff. Will be my new choice for easy DH. Force is lighter and a steeper head angle. They could have had better bar/stem combos at the camp, but overall the thing felt awesome. These bikes look sweet. All the new graphics/ color choices have come a long way for 08 actually.
Marathon is the 4" xc bike. I have been riding one of these in small all off-season, so I am stoked on it. It feels just like the ID 4.1 but lighter, pedaling is spot on. Graphics are matte clear over the carbon, which I think is cool. Wellsy has been racing on the Marathon and you know how weight concious those xc bandits are:) They use bar tape instead of grips to save weight. I love mine, so there you go. two thumbs up:)
I think they have a Zaskar Carbon and a zaskar pro, both light as hell. The name Zaskar has such a solid history, this bike will sell like crazy.
BMX Bike. Looks cool, kinda funky, I only rode it down the street. Graphics made it for me. They have the old skool GT bmx logo on there with the wings:) Not sure if it will be a production bike or not.
GTR road bike. Some details with the tubing bends are worth a look.
I am not much for bike reviews. I leave that to the tech wizards. There were like 30 journalists at the camp, so I am sure you will hear all about the bikes at some point. All I know is that GT is stepping it up.
