San Francisco AMA Supercross

photos: Transworldmx, racer-x
Supercross tonight looks muddy from the weather reports. Live audio on supercrossonline.com. and CBS picked up the Speed channel's slack this Sunday. No Bubba for the rest of the season, he's getting his knees fixed apparently:( Lites racing is still close, see if the scrapper Jason Lawrence can get his shit together, or if Dungee will walk away with it. Mud races; anything can happen....racerx

UCI BMX Arizona

Goodyear, AZ
Well, another UCI BMX round down. It was rainy yesterday, but today was perfect. The dirt and turns here were some of the best I have seen, tacky, and tall. I mostly enjoy the format of these events, just racing, resting and more racing, only Jr and elite. Day 1 NBL national too Update below at bottom

CHRIS POWELL...

STILL SHREDDING...
Interview #2

In my opinion, knowing Chris as well as I do, and seeing him ride right now, it wouldn't take him long to get back to the podium where he left off. After two seasons of unlucky injuries, Chris wasn't so sure he wanted to take the risks involved with racing anymore, but guess what, he can still ride a bike beautifully. Now with his degree one credit away, and real life on the horizon, what is up with Mr.Powell?? ...

MY pal Harrison has so much talent,,,, check out some of the things he's created, most of them involve bikes and art, so I'm guessing people who read this site will be intrigued:). Newest project is Clay Porter's branding on his current film in progress F1RST.

Anaheim 2 SUPERCROSS

Anaheim, CA
Third round of Supercross came back to Anaheim. They were having a retro night from 1986, when David Bailey and Rick Johnson raced one of the best races in history. Anyway, it was the same track from that event. Different style course from today's standard; right hand first turn, sand section, stall wall, less whoops, little less technical, but in it's own way just as. There was a tripple in the back that I think they could only doule back then that was huge!!. Cool that they had 80s gear, killer 80's rock music, fireworks galore and Rick Johnson and David bailey themselves to do a hot lap. Even cooler that since David bailey is paralyzed from the waist down that he could do that with a modified bike, just rolling around....

McGrath , Ricky Carmichael, and Chad Reed also did a hot lap complete with nac nacs for the fans of course. RC should still be out there, he retired too soon!!! But the biggest disappointment of the night was that Bubba announced that he would not be racing due to knee injuries. Must be pretty sore for him to no-show after practice.

Lites racing was way more exciting than the 450 class. Dungee won again, but Broc Hepler was right on his heels, another lap and it would have been close. Jason Lawrence looked like the fastest rider to me, but after a shitty start, then not being able to restart his bike after a fall, he was doomed.

In the 450 Alsessi got the holeshot, but Reed passed him in the second turn and led every lap after. He had the most perfect line on the inside of turn 2, held a drift into that monster triple, put time into everyone there. If Windham would have won, it would have been way cooler, but Reed is too good and uncontested without Bubba there to challenge. 1 Reed, 2. Josh Hill, 3 Windham. Too bad. www.supercrossonline.com

Backyard track

Official ribbon cutting ceremony on the replica track is this monday the 21st. A lot of media people have already been out, but this is the main unveil. That rain from 3 weeks ago caused major delays, still a work in progress, but hopefully it'll all be done by then.

Oakley tid bits

Hard to imagine Oakley started it all with a BMX grip. All their old school stuff is worth a fortune today, can't even find it really. Now they make a wider spectrum... eyewear, clothing, shoes, golf bags, wearable electronics, etc. Check out this new Oakley Thump; detachable earpieces with the controls all sleek within the "O". forward, back, shuffle, volume. They are pretty awesome.

Sabrina Jonnier Interview

Sabrina Jonnier has been racing downhill since the mid 90's. She is one of the most accomplished female racers in the sport, and filling the void of her French predecessor, by collecting 2 consecutive World Championship titles herself. For 2008 Sabrina leaves her championship winning team Monster/Ironhorse to join the US based team Maxxis/Ironhorse team. Not too big of a change for equipment, but a new family and color to belong to, how will she do as an Orange....

Anaheim 1 Supercross!!

ANAHEIM, CA
Opening round of Supercross in Anaheim is pretty fun. Lots of hype, new teams, big stars, fireworks, live on TV. The rain came early in the day and did it's damage to the dirt, pushed back practice, but dry skies for the event ...

Bro on site

CHULA VISTA, CA
The replica track is still under construction, but getting close. My brother has been hired to design the jump park off the back, so that will be pretty rad, few trail boss sections and pump tracks to mix it up. Storm is on its way, might get sloppy for ol Ritz and Paul, but maybe they can get at least a drift or two out of the bobcat.
