WC#1-Maribor DH

MARIBOR, SLOVENIA
Wow, that's weird, Sam and Sabrina won....

STORY BY BRYN
Gotta tell you, Maribor is quite amazing. Track is prime, fans in the masses, cool city, nice weather, good food, huge turnout of riders, think 290+ riders rode in men's quali. There were talks today of this race maybe not happening next year, would be a shame.

Aparently it was supposed to rain today?? No deal, the sun was out for one of the hottest days yet. The track was holding up pretty well in quallifying, but from what everyone was saying, it was getting blown out for finals, as usual.

My day didn't go so well, Qualifying, I G-d out in a real fast turn, over the bars, Buckling my wheel, couldnt really shred with my tire rubbing on my forks. So I Didn't Qualify in the top 80 to race the finals. Not cool. Now go to Portugal for a week to regroup, iron some stuff out, mainly a wheel:).

A few notables worth mentioning;
-Sabrina Won the Womens DH finals by a tenth of a second, pretty tight racing between her and Rachael Atherton. Those chicks are fast, Sabrina would have been 78th in Men's DH. Rachel won here by 8 seconds last year and was fastest qualifier this morning, going to be a tight battle for the championship!! Shame Tracy Hannah didn't get a sponsor to race world cups this year, she would have been the wild card.

-young Josh Bryceland ate shit hard in the rock garden, not the nicest place to crash, it i dense with rocks, and fast. He came in hot, was on the edge from the get go, it looked like he was going to pull it off, but then got caught on something, and got sent over the bars probably 15 feet down the hill onto a sawn off tree stumps and rocks, landing on what looked like to be his head.. The race was momentarily put on hold, while Josh was checked out, He got up under his own strength, and was taken to hospital, Hopefully with nothing worse than some skin wounds and a few bruises. Get better bro.

- Camellini aka "The Camel" , Killing it, top frenchy on the day number 2 overall, nice one.

-Neethling and his 'Goose put down a solid run, held on to 10th spot at the end of the day, nice start to his season.

-Lopes was cruising around with Freecaster interviewing the pros, I did a mini interview with him, it was pretty funny, you may see it.

-STRAIT Kyle- Top American 24th , JD 27th. Kyle is back racing World cups after a few years off to "Freeride" and JD is on his virgin World cup season. Stroble would have been up there, but he broke his hand at the sea-otter which is a bummer.

-Matti LEHIKOINEN broke his freewheel in his race run and was not happy.

-Marc Beaumont, way, way down the list.

-Old Delfsy (Mitch Delfs) from Perth, AUS did a pretty good time with a crash, Look out! Another flat pedal shredder from Sam's hometown.

-Man Peaty is just freekin nuts, the guy is not slowing down, F***k, if anything he's getting faster.. What an amazing carreer he has had so far, 3rd today, he's still there for the WC overall, as usual. Same story every year. He is a legend.

-Leov 'with a silent V' layed it down today, I think he got 8th, on Clips this weekend, he was on flats last weekend in Italy, chop and change bro.

-The Leatt Brace neck brace is becoming pretty common now, good to see a lot of people rocking it. I saw someone wearing this crazy ass 'FRO' neck brace, (I guess it's a Leatt rip off) It looks like it would break if you sneezed while putting it on, not to mention it might make things worse. It looks to me like it is made out of a freezer box (polystyrene)??

Lisbon Downtown next weekend.. BRYN
