4x World Champs
There were some crazy surprises in tonight's 4x racing. O'l Buhly took it down for the girls, and Rafael De Lara Alvarez is the Elite men's 4x World champ.
The final for the men last night was wild, 'Stains' (Jared Graves) was dominating all night in his heats. I kinda had an idea that there was going to be some moves, but when the gate dropped in the final Jared got the hole shot and was in lane one. Entering the first turn, Deldycke held it out wide and swooped under Jared taking them both over the berm. Old mate Alvarez passed them both and cruised to the line to claim his first ever World championship victory, also a first for his home country of Spain.
The Girls race was also a bit of a surprise. Anneke Beerten was leading until the second last turn, where she left the inside wide open and one of the Check girls snuck inside, forcing Anneke loose her speed for the next straight. 'Top fuel Buhl' just pinned it past the both of them taking the win for the US. This was also Buhly's first world championship, coming from third, she's gotta be stoked.
Lopes didn't make the final, in one of his heats he got hit in the face with a course marking flag, he had a blood nose for a while. I don't think it really matters though, he has had an amazing career, with so many titles, and to be 37 and still competing at this level, Lopes is the man.
