OLYMPIC BMX Trials Mikey Qualified!!
CHULA VISTA, CA
Mike Day owned the BMX Olympic trial today, dominated in such a way that he had enough points from the first three motos there was no need to run the final!!! Mikey, Kyle Bennett, Donny (pending coaches pick) , and I will be team USA. Chula vista track looked amazing, banners, grand stands, jumbo-tron, etc. First class show, I was so impressed. Today was a great day, and one of the most exciting races I have ever watched. Tons of support from the fans in the cycling community, sponsors, USAC, USOC, parents, resident athletes, media, etc . In the first moto of the day, Cisar was on the inside in the gate, Donny middle, Mikey outside and it was that order heading down the second straight as well till Cisar over jumped the step up and went down. Looked like he completely missed the landing and nailed his head and leg. Mikey pulled donny through the third straight in that same moto and kept up highest points for the Olympic spot. Think that crash by "The Cees" took a bit of pressure off the other guys, but that is not how you want to end your olympic dream. Hope he feels better soon.
On the day, results were, 1. Mikey Day, 2. Donny, 3. David Herman...
Also pretty tragic that Bubba Harris broke his good ankle 2 days before this event. He has had zero luck this year with all the injuries and is going to have to just ride out this wave of bad luck.
Wanted to just thank Red Bull, Gt, Oakley, The OTC, Usa Cycling, all the fans, Greg, and everyone else involved. This whole Olympic thing is bigger than any one of us, and it takes a lot of support to make somethin glike this happen for any athlete.
