US Skeleton Racing

THE CHRIS BURGESS INTERVIEW
Descending head first on a tiny sled down a bobsled track going 80 mph might sound crazy to some, but Skeleton is an interesting sport that doesn't get much of the limelight. I have learned a lot about it from my homie Chris who spends his summers training here at the otc....

USA TODAY GRAPHICS

USA TODAY- Olympic graphics
On the media blitz back in March, Usa today shot footage in the green room of us explaining the course section by section. Then they made up a graphic diagram to explain the basics of the course to an average reader. It is a pretty cool graphic with animation, video clips, and photos within the sections. Mikey handles it... BMX Graphic

Governator

CHULA VISTA,CA
Governor Schwarzenegger came down the OTC yesterday for a quick visit. The entourage that surrounds someone of his political stature is quite a sight. They were driving around campus from one stop to the next led by a motocycle, couple town cars, the suburban, then couple more cars. Security guards, camera crew, photographers,,, you would have to be a movie star to put up with that all day every day. Anyway, we did a hotlap for the gov,,, he was pumped, said we were smooth:)

Foreigners and the great Canadian race off...

CHULA VISTA, CA
For the last two weeks we have been hosting several countries for bmx at the U.S. Olympic Training Center as part of the Olympic movement. Since we are the only country with a complete replica track and all the other facilities, it is a gesture to the world from the United States Olympic Comitee and IOC. Turned out to be pretty fun having fresh faces to ride with. Australia, Argentina, Netherlands, Columbia, Canada, New Zealand, etc. Lucky them, lucky me, we are in it together. Been a few casualties this week though.

Anyway,,, Canada qualified one position for their men, but two guys had equal points, so they had a two man race off, aka Olympic Trials, here this morning sandwiched in between practice for everyone else like any other day. After 3 qualifiers and 2 main events on the replica, Scott Erwood beat out Jimmy Brown to represent Canada as their sole elite male at the Beijing Olympics.

Everyone is faster now and there was zero wind thismorning, but Scott's time trial is the fastest recorded lap attack at the moment.

BLK/MRKT Gallery

Added an art book called BLK/MRKT GALLERY ONE to my personal library the other day. Think there are a lot of interesting ideas in there, as well as a network of great artists associated with contemporary art and design. A favorite- Elaine Bradford, who crochets sweaters for random objects and gives them warmth and humor... BLK/MRKT is a legit design firm who expanded its reach and opened up a fine art gallery, that is where this book comes from , their walls.
