Racing Wieners!!!

SAN DIEGO,CA
One word for this..."ridiculous". Wiener dogs racing in an 8 dog format, straight sprint to the line. Whistle blows, gate opens, and snap,,,kinda. Lot of em would come out the gate but be looking around all distracted and confused. Winning Wieners advanced to a final 8 based on times. This gives a whole new meaning to term "sausage fest". I found out about this from a radio show we did yesterday, and quite frankly, this was one of the most entertaining things I have ever seen. Extra cute.

What's a bronze?

BEIJING, CHINA
Here's how the story goes, through my two eyes... Over the last year and a half, predominantly the last 10 months, there has been one goal on the table, one race that could change everything. It didn't come without sacrifice, this year put me through the wringer; Away from Bryn, away from home, switched sports, was injured, reinjured, and always an underdog. The plan remained simple though, do the best I could with what I had, and be ready for opportunity...

Home sweet home

LOS ANGELES, CA
After 20 hours of travel, we landed at LAX to blitz right into a Sirius radio interview on Faction and a CBS sports tv interview in the studio. What we didn't know was that our red bull crew and several close homies were outside waiting, champaign in hand, to cruise in the Red Bull party bus!! So rad to see everyone and be home. besides being really sick it was the best homecoming ever!!! Thanks everyone.

Olympic medalists

BEIJING, CHINA
Insane insane insane. 3 was my lucky number all day, lane 3 every round, finished third every lap, number 33,third overall, and USA took home 3 of 6 medals in BMX. my bronze, mikey's silver, and the Don's bronze. I am mid media blitz but will write more after this settles down. This experience has been incredible and to walk away a champion is something else. I'm very happy to be able to give something back to everyone who has supported me along the way. Think my dad was shining down on me today. Big thanks to Coach g, Bryn, mom, Paul, chris powell, USA cycling, Gt, red bull, Oakley, team sponsors, amy Stanton, Arielle, OTC, Steve spencer, Steve "mf" Bamel, Katie k, kinger, pete d, RM 59, Leigh d, Smapril, April lawyer, Anthony t, randy roberts, e-dub, mike raich, and everyone back home who has supported me through this!!!

Day 6- Wed

BEIJING, CHINA
TIME TRIALS & MEN'S QUARTERS
So this morning felt like any other morning, except we had to do some hot laps for the world to see. Time trials set the brackets for our races, but also count towards lane choice in those heats...

day 5- Tuesday

BEIJING, CHINA
Another practice day done, little warmer this morning, but a good session none the less. Today has been the simplest day yet, ride eat nap. We have the system of transport down a lot better a well as the village routine. Parents, friends, sponsors are all rolling into town for the show. Time trial in the morning. Our two days of events are nearly sold out. Other athletes sound really excited to come watch. Nike got tickets for Kobe and lebron, hows that for inspiration, mikey is extra pumped :) Finally time.

DAY 4-Monday

BEIJING, CHINA
PRACTICE DAY 1
6am wake up call, breakfast, 30 min bus ride to the venue, warm up, then practice began. Felt so good to finally be riding on the track again. This course is so much fun to ride, I loved every minute out there. Jumps are smaller than we are used to after chula vista, but the ramp is all the same and getting to that first turn will be just as important...

First impressions- day 1

BEIJING, CHINA
It is unreal to finally be in Beijing after watching so much of the games unfold at home. Enjoy Bob Costas and the amazing coverage of NBC, cause you are seeing way more than I am:) Getting tickets, transport, and managing the crowds is hectic. The tight accreditation is making guest passes, coaches passes, family passes and security super difficult, as expected when you have this much talent under one roof. The Bird's nest and Water Cube are sights to behold, well worth the anticipation from the outside, just gotta get in now:). We were here a year ago for a test event, and this city has transformed. The construction is finished, smog clear (Today), gardens everywhere, top notch facilities, decent food. I am really impressed. Just a little overwhelmed for the first day finding our way around....

TEAM PROCESSING

SAN JOSE, CA
Day trip up to San Jose today to pick up all our team USA Olympic apparel. Every Olympian had to go through this process, including superstars like Kobe and Lebron, and of course me:). Anyway, you get a shopping cart and flow through this checklist till the cart is full. Rows and rows of clothes, shoes, luggage, etc. Then to Alterations, ring sizing, photos, medical checklist, and another briefing. Think the 5 of us were the last 5 total, so we were in and out and on an early flight back home. We head to China on the 13th, so another week to go. You will have to wait for the big show to see all these kits in their entirety. Ralph Lauren and Nike..

IAN's CUSTOM BANDANA

As a special "good luck" project, I designed a custom Olympic bandana for one of my discus throwing homies Ian (pronounced with the I not E). He always competes in a bandana and this one will be extra patriotic with american paisleys:)

American beauty

Love this helmet!!. Liberty was going to be my Worlds helmet, but that has come and gone, so this lid will be my 2008 non olympic National Champion helmet. Branding is extra strict at the games, no bulls, no suns, but I think the olympic lid will be a version of this one with the same colors and sweet lightning bolts everwhere:). Thanks to Josh @ Red Bull, Chris Wood @ Airtrix- for having mad talent with paint, and Sauce design firm for the creativity.

NY Times Blogger

I am going to be doing some blogging for the New York Times in their Olympic "Rings" section. My piece is called, "250 days down, 10 to go,,, Life in "Rocky" mode."Check it here.

NY TIMES PHOTO

New York Times is doing a photo essay about athletes with hidden talents. Think they had one lady doing acrobatics, unicycling and juggling, a snowboarder surfing, someone golfing, etc, so they came to me with the art angle. Art is often not something you can just do in an hour and training ran late for the day, but Bess Greenberg aka "Biggie", who is awesome, had me draw a chalk mural. All I could come up with were those Chinese money cats that you see in restaurants, but as lucky ninja cats ready to wreck shop in Beijing, so here it is with an hour to create. Her set up was an and old wooden camera deardorff 8"x10" format complete with a hood, classic.

Freestylin

Freestylin' is One of the coolest books ever about the history of Freestyle BMX. Freestylin' magazine was launched back in the 80's, so this is a retrospective collective of the Photos and characters who pioneered the sport. Nike helped sponsor the initative,,, Mark Lewman, Andy Jenkins, and Spike Jonze are responsible. These photos are so classic- the soul of BMX.

Nike oldschool bmx line up...

Public speech

CHULA VISTA, CA
Gave my first public speech today, in front of the City Commerce no less, so it was kinda fun. Had the Mayor of Chula Vista, associates from her office, the Supervisor, Police dept, School board members, YMCA folks, water district, architects, realtors, arts departments, DJ from the local radio station, trustees, public officials, volunteers, activists, some retired folks, Tracy Lamb of the OTC, Kinger, etc,,, bout 70 people total from the community who have aided in our Olympic training center being here in this city. My spiel was just about what this process to the Olympics has been like, living amongst other athletes and sharing the same dream, and just how valuable the resources we have are. Thought it was really cool to be amongst people who make things happen, Gives me a broader perspective, and a good feeling that I can reach or inspire people with my story.
