US OPEN D.H. Finals

VERNON, NJ
Right before Pro finals yesterday, just minutes after we started hiking up to watch, torrential downpours flooded the course. Lightning and thunder forced all the riders who were up top to roll down the hill and they shut off the lift for about 45 minutes. Once the sun came out and lightning stopped, it was time for a mud race. Saw lots of crashes and sketchy moments, so for the fans, it was entertaining, but for the racers, it looked outta control.

At the heart of the course, in the rock garden, a guy (apparently George Ryan's roommate) brought in a generator, speakers, music, and a PA system. He was commentating play by plays for the fans and rocking the tunes, but I Dunno how he didn't get electrocuted.

Race run, Sam Hill won, but bryn got 6th with a big crash at the bottom of the course in the grass turns. So close. 1. Sam 2. Gee 3. Brendan 4. Rando 5. Keene 6. Bryn

1980's Wrestling sensation Iron Sheik was in attendance. Fans were loving that. He needed a cane and was talking shit on the Hulk:) "Can I get a hell yes!"

US OPEN G.S. CHAMPION!!!

VERNON, NJ
Giant Slalom Results. Brendan and I took the GS US Open titles today! $2,000 is a healthy prize purse for both classes, so we are all happy to come to this event and try out a new format!!!

I had a really good run, which put me 16th fastest overall on this course , and a couple seconds ahead of the other ladies. Felt like the harder I tried the slower it was, all about flow and letting it go-High speed pump trackish. In the men's field Sam and Lopes were tough competitors, Sam with his turning ability should have walked away with this in theory, and lopes on his hardtail had a little rougher ride but was amazingly fast and powerful , but brendan was going so fast- controlling his braking better and cornering faster I suppose. Felt like a big qualifying day- best of two runs. Love racing in America. First victory on the Intense Tazer VP, truly the most perfect slalom bike .
WOMEN:
1.Jill 43.15
2.Buhly
45.05
3.Pruitt
45.10
4. Fionn 45.44
5. Jo 47.21
MEN:
1. Brendan 39.93
2. Sam 40.18
3. Lopes 40.76
4. Garrit Beytag 40.78
5. EC 40.94

Bryn qualified #1 in the DH , Gee 2, Sam3, everyone was coasting to the line, and there was a little more rain tonight, so we will see, Bryn is riding solid. 5k to the winner..

US OPEN OF MOUNTAIN BIKING

VERNON, NEW JERSEY
For the first time, I think ever, there is a race called Giant Slalom. Kinda like a mini downhill, 40+ seconds of slaloming for a time result, no head to head, just go fast and pick lines. Big money for a win here though- 2k GS, 5k DH.

Upset of the day was that Brendan Fairclough took the #1 time in qualifying over Lopes, Sam Hill, EC, Rando, as well as several other fast guys. Guess he's on a roll. Top 20 men, top 5 women. I set the fastest women's time, then buhly, pruitt, fionn, and joanna. Tomorrow is race, best of two runs. Pretty skatey turns in some spots and difficult to link together. The hike to the start is grueling in this heat, its so steep and long, calf blowout.

DH is going on Sunday, GS sat.

Fox business news

NYC, NY
Bryn and I flew back from Andorra to spend a couple days in New York city before heading to the US Open in Vernon, NJ. Red Bull has a regional office, so we met up with our homies there, and they had a few media gigs lined up for me. Guess I didn't really know the scale of it coming in, but had a 12 minute interview, with my bike on stage, live on Fox Business news on the show Scoreboard. They have millions of viewers and it aired twice. Sweet exposure for my sponsors, and I got a plug in for the US Open!! Hopefully the fans will flock to NJ!!. Pretty cool experience.

DH final- ANDORRA

VALLNORD, ANDORRA
Yeah BRYN!!! Back in the mix of the top 10- 8th here in Andorra and riding confident. I was up top with the spares, but timed the lift perfect to see most of his run. Knew it would be a good time, and indeed it was!!! He sat with the fastest time in the hot seat for almost 40 minutes. So stoked to have our little team do well with just the two of us. World Cup downhill is no joke. Big boost for Crank Brothers Downhill wheels too.

Peaty won the final by .02 seconds over Gee, making this victory a record breaker in the history of the sport. The legacy of Nico has been surpassed for most Downhill World Cup Wins. Nice one. Poor Sam had it all but won today, crashed in the worst possible place going 54kph? and is lucky to have not done any damage to himself.

4x final- ANDORRA

VALLNORD, ANDORRA
Checkers or wreckers? This time it was wreckers. turn 1, in the final, crash and burn. Damnit. Door was left wide open on the inside for me, had a sweet drift going, a little contact, boom . Going for the lead but, didn't quite seal the deal. Fionn took the victory...

Men's final. Jared Graves had the quick start, moved outside to set up for turn 1. Roger R. hung back and darted inside for the swoop pushing Jared off his line and back to 3rd? 4th?. Roger led most of the lap till he went outside in the last turthinking he had it won, and Joost stole the victory from another inside pass. Luke madill played it wait and see, and saw 2nd, while jared and Roger ran to the line. Jeeze.

Andorra 4x Quali

ANDORRA
After they cancelled practice on thursday, due to tons of freezing ass cold rain and miserable conditions, friday (yesterday) was a really nice sunny day,,, All of practice and qualifying went on as usual. Track is pretty fun, kinda has real mountain bike elements, high speed turns, some flat ones, loose dirt, mud ruts, jumps with uneven lips etc. Few guys did this massive quad jump, it was rad. Track is still drying out, so maybe there will be some sweet drifts as well...All about the snap today!!

MEN 4x Quali
1. Jared Graves
2. Roger Internet
3.Saladini
4. Kamil T.
5. Deldyke

WOMEN 4x (24 qualified)
1. Jill
2. Jana
3. Buhl

23. Anneke.

World Cup #3- ANDORRA

VALLNORD, ANDORRA
Small little mountainous country in between the Southern border of France and the Northern border of Spain. We just went up to the race site, and after a nice sunny day yesterday, it is rainy and still snow on the mountain. Track builder Phil said it took 20 men a few days to clear the snow off the 4x track by shovel. Soft ground, but a rad course, some massive gaps. here is a link from last year on freecaster.tv

On a side note, i think it is really lame how there is no website that tells travelers about where Mountain Bike parks are in europe. Anybody know?

Labresse DH Winners

LA BRESSE, FRANCE
Sabrina Jonnier and Peaty owned the hill today!!. Exciting racing. Down to the final racer on the hill. Started out dry for the women and the first 50 or so men. But then it started pouring down rain. Quick tire changes, and there was some nail biting? till the very last rider....

DH Race morning In La Bresse

LA BRESSE, FRANCE
After yesterday's qualifier, race day has finally arrived in France for the Downhillers. There hasn't been rain for a couple days, so the grassy hillside is holding, ruts have hardened, and a lot of people changed tires from Cut spikes back to normal tread. The field was cut from 200 down to the top 80 men. So many of them are within the same second that the qualifying times were really close. Peaty looked dominant in Practice, to me, so it makes sense that he came out #1 seed. But I heard that Sam Bashed his chain guide or something and couldn't pedal- still was only like 3 seconds off. I think it will be close, and for sure exciting to see how the dry will effect the euros, if it stays dry. Bryn is in the mix , feeling good on the M6, about to wreck shop on those guys. Few hours to go...

La bresse dh inspection

LA BRESSE, FRA
These little European mountain towns are so cute. Love the fresh air, all the country gardens, green grass, streams, perfectly stacked wood, and little cats running around. Weather has been on our side for the past few days, and the Dh world cup track is looking sweet (from what i saw and heard:). Typical French grass hillside, natural terrain, good speeds, a few sections with pretty big drops- some to flat. Also quite a few wide open sections with options then into tight kinda technical. Rain would change everything a lot, grass and muddy. Think most of the guys are quite happy with this track. I guess Sam hill loves it, so that might tell you something about what is to come...

As head manager and mechanic:) spikes are on Bryns bike- cut to his liking, m6 is cleaned, number plate on, bolts checked, tire pressures set, registration complete, and spare Crankbrothers Opium wheels ready to go. Yeahhh team.:) what a nice girl.

XC World Cup Track..

OFFENBURG, GER
We saw signs for Offenburg on our way down to LaBresse, Fra, and got out to ride a hotlap of the World Cup Cross country track there that was raced a couple weeks ago. Such an awesome track!!! If you are around the area, hit it up!!, wish all xc trails had that much rad singletrack.

Bad Wildbad

BAD WILDBAD, GER
We spent a couple of days at a bike park in a town called Bad Wildbad. So bad they had to say it twice? The town itself was really beautiful, but the people were super old and grumpy. We got the police called on us twice because old ladies thought we drove past them too fast in 2nd gear in a motorhome going downhill?!?. People just staring at us like they had never seen bikes before or people working on them. God forbid you sit on anyone's steps!! :) Bryn said there was one DH track he liked a lot, nice and rough, but other trails there were pretty average. Battle truck moves onward...

Belgium 4x Finals...

HOUFFALIZE, BEL
There is something special about racing under lights in europe in front of thousands of fans. Just reminds me of World Cup racing, and that the sport is well and alive over here. While this track was not super difficult, it raced well- head to head racing is never easy....

Belgium DH?

HOUFFALIZE, BEL
Well Bryn and his Intense M6 won the The Red Bull Downhill Cup here in Belgium!!! It was worth 3,000 euros for 1st!!. Nice surprise. The track was super flat and pedaly up top for like 70% of the track, then a couple really steep tech parts right near the end when you are nice and tired form the 2 minutes of sprinting . Polc was 2nd, then a local ripper 3rd, Marcus Klaussman 4th.

Pinkbike.com coverage...

PINKBIKE.com feature from Sea Otter. Info about Crankbrothers wheels, and a tour of our new program....I Read through the comments. Bryn and I are running our own program, no mechanic, no manager, sick parts, but not a ton of money. Privateer. We have freedom to run what we want, as you can tell with Bryn on a few separate components, but our general package is the same, Bikes Wheels, suspension, chaoin guides, etc.... I realize that plenty of people run their own programs at different levels, but for two top world Cup contenders racing a full schedule, this is a big change for us...
